Book Review: A Witch in Time by Constance Sawyers

Rating: 4.5 Stars

“You’d be surprised at the illusions we sell ourselves…”

It’s a little hard for me to categorize this book. One one hand, it was marketed as fantasy and that part is very much true. But my romance-reader heart is convinced that at its core, this book is a love story. And an EPIC one at that.

There’s nothing I love more than a well told story of star crossed lovers and this one pretty much hit all my sweet spots.
– Cursed fated mates? Check
– Magic, witch craft and curses? Check
– Reincarnation that doesn’t sound/feel corny weird? Check
– A love that lasts through time? DOUBLE CHECK!

I adored Helen and Luke through all their life times. Their story was heart warming and full of so much depth and angst, I cried even as I was sighing through their journey. And because of that, and because this book was marketed as fantasy, the ending almost gave me a heart attack! I won’t spoil it for you but let’s just say for a minute I was prepared to throw my Kindle against the wall.

Thankfully, the writer saved both, my heart and money in the epilogue. The only pet peeve I have is that I wish it had been longer (the epilogue, I mean.) I needed to see just a little more of them in the present day. Just a bit more of them conversing about the people they’d become through so many lives, with all their memories now intact.

But again, that’s just a personal preference and that little glitch is not enough to spoil this book. I thoroughly enjoyed and will be awaiting more from this writer. If you haven’t read this yet, I suggest you pick it up now and make your upcoming weekend more magical.

Trigger Warning: This book contains a brutal rape scene. If scene’s like that are a trigger and make you uncomfortable, please consider skipping this book.
